Our Story

More Than a Home.
We Are Family.

Founded in 2020 with nothing but faith and love, Mercy Children's Home has grown into a haven for Uganda's most vulnerable children in Kasanda Bukuya. We provide not just shelter — but a real home where every child is seen, loved and valued.

Every child who arrives broken leaves empowered. Every story of pain becomes a story of hope.

"We didn't start with money. We started with love. And love has been enough."

What We Do

Six Pillars
of Care

We believe holistic care changes lives. Every child at Mercy Children's Home receives support across six key areas — ensuring they grow up healthy, educated, and full of purpose.

01

Safe Shelter

A secure, loving home where every child feels protected and at peace — far from the dangers they once faced on the streets of Uganda.

02

Daily Nutrition

Three nourishing meals every single day — because no child at Mercy Children's Home should ever go to bed hungry.

03

Education

School fees, uniforms, books — we invest in every child's mind and future, giving them the tools to build a better life.

04

Healthcare

Regular checkups, medicines, and emergency care so every child at Mercy can grow up strong, healthy and full of life.

05

Spiritual Care

Faith, love and moral guidance — helping each child discover their God-given purpose and inner strength to overcome.

06

Permanent Land

Our urgent mission — securing permanent land in Kalaata, Kasanda District so these children can have a forever home.

The Heart
Behind Mercy

Alex Ssengonzi grew up understanding poverty. When he saw children on the streets of Uganda with nowhere to go, he opened his own home — with no funding, no grants, just love and faith.

Today he leads a team of dedicated volunteers and staff to care for 32 children in Kasanda Bukuya. His dream is to secure permanent land so these children can have a forever home.

"Every child I see on the street reminds me why I can never stop. Until every child has a home, I will keep going."
