Every Child Matters
At Mercy Children's Home, the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority — above all else. We are committed to creating a home where children are protected, respected, and free to grow.
Our Purpose
This policy sets out how Mercy Children's Home protects the children in our care from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. It applies to all staff, volunteers, visitors, and anyone connected with our work.
Our Principles
- Every child has the right to be safe, regardless of background, ability, or circumstance.
- The welfare of the child always comes first.
- We listen to children and take what they say seriously.
- We act quickly and responsibly whenever a child may be at risk.
How We Protect Children
- Safe environment: We provide a secure, caring home where children are supervised and looked after by trusted caregivers.
- Careful selection: Staff and volunteers are known to us and expected to act in the best interests of the children at all times.
- Clear conduct: All adults are expected to behave appropriately, treat children with respect, and never place a child at risk of harm.
- Privacy in media: When we share photos or stories, we change names and present children with dignity. We never share information that could put a child at risk.
Visitors & Volunteers
We welcome volunteers and visitors who wish to support our children. All visitors are supervised and expected to follow our safeguarding rules. No adult should ever be alone with a child in a way that cannot be observed, and no visitor may contact a child privately outside the home.
Online & Photo Safety
We are careful about how children appear online. We do not publish full names, locations of individual children, or any detail that could identify or endanger a child. We ask everyone to respect this and never copy, repost, or misuse images of our children.
