Child Safeguarding Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Every Child Matters

At Mercy Children's Home, the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority — above all else. We are committed to creating a home where children are protected, respected, and free to grow.

Our Purpose

This policy sets out how Mercy Children's Home protects the children in our care from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. It applies to all staff, volunteers, visitors, and anyone connected with our work.

Our Principles

How We Protect Children

Visitors & Volunteers

We welcome volunteers and visitors who wish to support our children. All visitors are supervised and expected to follow our safeguarding rules. No adult should ever be alone with a child in a way that cannot be observed, and no visitor may contact a child privately outside the home.

If you visit, volunteer, or support Mercy Children's Home, you agree to put the safety of the children first and to follow the guidance of our caregivers at all times.

Online & Photo Safety

We are careful about how children appear online. We do not publish full names, locations of individual children, or any detail that could identify or endanger a child. We ask everyone to respect this and never copy, repost, or misuse images of our children.

Reporting a Concern

If you have any concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child connected to Mercy Children's Home, please tell us immediately. Every concern is taken seriously and treated with care and confidentiality.

If a child is in immediate danger, please also contact the local authorities in Uganda without delay.

Our Promise

We will continue to learn, improve, and do everything in our power to keep every child at Mercy Children's Home safe, loved, and valued.
